A month ago I received an invitation to my cousin’s wedding shower. But it wasn’t your normal type of wedding shower. It was a STAR WARS themed wedding shower. With much excitement I immediately started thinking of what I would wear to go with the theme. I wanted to go all out and do some thing unique. I asked Sam (the Star Wars expert) for ideas and he first suggested Yoda. I was on board, until I realized who would make an even better Yoda…. My 5-month-old niece, Olivia. I remembered a scene from the original Star Wars films where Yoda was being carried by Luke Skywalker as he is training him. That’s what I wanted to dress as. (that way I could get to hold/play with my niece all day).
The shower itself was….”out of this world”. One of my favorite parts of the party was the food. Everything was labeled in a creative and funny way. For example, the punch was called “Yoda Soda”, the cinnamon bun snacks were called “Princess Leia Buns”, and my favorite, the dish of Rolo Candies that were called “Han Rolos”. I loved the play on words. But that’s my type of humor too.
Of course there were trays upon trays of delicious food for the party, but the cake was the most eye catching. One of our other cousins baked it herself. Not only did it taste great, it looked fantastic. It had a layer decorated like a Storm Trooper and another layer decorated like Chewbacca. And no, we cut the cake with a knife, not the light sabers.
Speaking of light sabers, Sam’s light saber which he let me borrow for the party was a HUGE hit. Not only for the party, but for Olivia as well. She was mesmerized by the pretty blue light and the saber sounds it made. It was too stinking cute. They handed out light sabers at the door as party gifts, but they weren’t like Sam’s. His saber was much more realistic. Everyone wanted to hold/play with it. But everyone did get a bit nervous after I told them it wasn’t mine. No one wanted to touch it then for the fear of breaking it. But thankfully, Sam’s prized possession was free from any harm.
Before the Bride and Groom (who dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader) opened their wedding gifts, we played a few party games. One of the games actually turned out to be a quiz sheet. All of the questions were Star Wars related. I really could have used Sam’s help for this one. The person to get the most answers correct received a Star Wars t-shirt and other fun door prizes. I clearly need to re-watch the franchise because I only got 3 out of the 12 questions right. I did not win.
I wonder if Sam could get all of these right…..
We ate, we laughed, and we had a great time. It was a very quaint family affair and it was a lot of fun. Everyone was dressed in their Star Wars best,…..but me and my niece definitely stole with show with our costume (proud Uncle moment). I actually was asked a few times to wear my costume to the wedding. A joke obviously, but the thought made me smile….
