Jodi’s awesome red sauce

1 small onion (diced)
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 bay leaves
2 small cans tomato paste
3 small cans tomato sauce
2 cans stewed tomatoes
3 TBL sugar
2 pounds ground beef (optional)

In a large pot simmer the diced onion, garlic, olive oil. In a bowl mix tomato paste with sugar and stir. Add the tomato paste mixture to the pot. Then add tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes into the pot – mix. Add two bay leaves, cover and simmer 3 to 4 hours. If you want you can add ground brown meat after the sauce has been cooked.

I made this for the first time, doubled the batch, used Splenda instead of sigar (half of what recipe called for) and it was absolutely FANTASTIC! Had some left over for cheese sticks and angel hair pasta. So very good and EASY! Thanks for sharing, Jodi!!

I have always cooked the beef and sauce together. What does it do to the flavor to add the beef at the end of simmering sauce?
