Real-Life Ghost Stories

We LOVE hearing your real-life ghost stories. Here are some that were written in to us on our Facebook page. Some sweet, some spooky. Enjoy!

This one was sent to us from listener Roxie.

I always had my young grandson spend the night with me on the weekends. I live in a 110 year old farm stead. One night I was awakened by my 3 year old grandson moaning in his sleep to be left alone. I thought my TV may have been bothering him so I turned it down. But continued to moan with anger to be left alone. I touched him and asked if the TV was bothering him. He sat up in the bed and said “No! He is!!!”. I looked at the foot of the bed and saw nothing. I looked back at my grandson, he sat there blinking his eyes as if he was not sure of what he was seeing. I explained to him that I couldn’t see who was bothering him. He told me “that’s OK Grammy, he’s dead”. I asked my little grandson what his name was. He said he didn’t know. While we lay there quietly in the dark, I heard my grandson ask sweetly in a whisper. “What is your name?”. I asked him later what his name was. My grandson said “Waddus” I repeated the name Waddus laughing. My grandson said NO Grammy!!! It’s Waddus!, I said Wallace? He said yes!!! He had a hard time saying his last at the time. For months I would hear him talk to Wallace. My grandson told me that he was special, that he had ghost eyes. I did have my house cleansed but those who did the cleaning said a few positive spirits stayed, and I was told they love me and wanted to stay with me and the I’ll house. It was fine with me.

Hi my name is Regina and I have a ghost story that I’d like to share. My brother passed away the day my daughter was born. And so my mom and I raised his 3 kids. He was especially close to his daughter Heather. And one day some years later in a house he had never been in some family was all in the living room and my mom was gone. She has an addition on her house that is adjacent to the living room area and my niece, Heather, was sitting next to me. I believe she was about 11 or 12. Everyone was visiting and it was a bit loud. I heard someone call her name and so did she we thought it may have been my mom getting back so she went down to check and came back with this pale look on her face. I asked her who was it that had called her name. She looked at me with a serious look on her face and said. “You heard it too? No one was in there.” No one else in the house heard someone call her. And the voice was my brothers voice. That room has never felt the same for her or me.

Here’s a sweet pet ghost story from Connie.

Good morning! My kids keep telling me that I need to send in our real life ghost story. We had to put our fur baby, Bubba, down last month. My husband and son had dreamt about him, that first night. My daughter dreamt about him the next night. I know it’s silly, but I was sad that I hadn’t even dreamt about him. The very next night, I glanced quickly at one of our other fur babies, who is basically Bubba’s lifetime mate. We have had her almost as long as we had him. Anyway, as clear as anything else in the room, I saw Bubba, right next to Sasha. It was only a split second, but it wasn’t a ghostly figure. Then when I went to bed, it felt like he was lying next to me with his head on my leg. I thought it was my imagination, but the next night, it felt like he was walking in the bed, then lied down next to me. Almost every single night, I felt his presence. It made dealing with his death, easier. Then last week, I finally dreamt about him. I had longed to just hold him, again, and I finally got to do that in my dream. The kids got to love on him, and much like what happened when he was alive, in my dream, he was next to my husband while my husband played his video games. Then I woke up. Sadly, I haven’t felt Bubba’s presence since that dream. Anyway, that’s the sweetest ghost story I have. The others are creepy. Haha. We love listening to you guys! Have a lovely day!

Stephanie sent in this sweet story.

I have a ghost story….sort of. Seventeen years ago my husband and I went on a cruise. When we got to Florida, before we sailed, I called home to tell my mother we made it. She said that my grandmother was in the hospital. She had had several strokes through the years and only spoke a few words. Hospital stays were not new. She and I were very close and I almost went home but she insisted I stay and have a good time. We left for the cruise through the Caribbean and when we got to our final port of call in New Orleans I called back home. They told me that Nanny was not doing well. I told them to tell her I loved her and would see her soon. That night I had a dream. Nanny came to me and was speaking fluently for the first time in a long time and told me she was gone but know that she loved me very much. I woke up and was very upset and my husband told me it was just a dream. We got back to port a day later and I immediately called my mom. My first words were “Nanny is gone isn’t she?” She told me she was and I told her about my dream. That was the approximate time that she passed. No one can convince me that it wasn’t her spirit that came to me to let me know she was finally at peace and whole again. Have a great day!

Lynn seems to have had a few spooky incidents.

When my daughter was 6 months old we moved into a new house. After she turned one she use to wake up crying, come running, and wake her dad and I up saying a little boy was biting her finger. This kept on for years and was always the same finger !! We had other things happen such as one day the kids were at school and my husband was out of town …. I was in the bed asleep (no one there with me) and the bed went down on the other side like someone sat down needless to say I was freaked out …. Another time my husband and I were watching TV and he fell asleep and he just up out of the blue jumped , he said something brushed against his foot….. It finally came to a stop or we just got use to it!!

Here’s one from John (from Australia).

The guy I purchased my home from passed in my bedroom, every now and then you hear his wheel chair down the hall way, and the dead mans lift starts with out anyone near it ! So I had it removed last week haha

This one comes from Janet

I have a good but true ghost story that really happened. About 2 years ago I was home alone living in an older house. I got up during the night to go the bathroom, when I heard a strange noise like a coin dropping onto the floor–rolling across the floor. I turned on the light in the bedroom, I was alone standing there with the cat in the bedroom, no one was there. The cat was with me standing there. I didn’t find the coin until 3 days later under the litter box as I was changing it.

I have what I think is a ghost story. A few months after my mother passed away, I had apparently gone to bed without setting my alarm. I woke up to my mothers voice clear as day calling me to wake up. Just like she did when I was a kid. So I got up, got ready and went to work. After I arrived to work, they had the radio playing and there had been a bad accident on the highway I take to get to work. I’m convinced that my mother woke me up to save me from being in that accident.

Hello.. I have the ultimate ghost story (I think so anyway). I had a cousin who I was extremely close to and she died extremely unexpectedly. This happened in 1995. I cried every night and would say out loud, If there is such a thing as a ghost, you need to show yourself. I think I said this every night for a few months. One night I got in bed and turned my light out on my night stand and as soon as I heard the click of the light turning off, I looked up and she was standing in my doorway in this bright light. I kept saying, “this isn’t really happening, this isn’t really happening”. I don’t know why, but I was not afraid until she told me to come to her, which I eventually did. As soon as she touched my hand, we were transported to the graveyard where our grandparents were buried, we were just sitting on the ground and talking. It was crazy, she looked like she was alive (we were in our 30’s then), it was also extremely bright and foggy out at the same time, I can’t explain it. She told me that she was fine and that we would see each other again. She snapped her fingers and I was right back in my bedroom saying to myself what in the #$%^% just happened. I never cried or saw her again.

My mother, step-dad had moved to a little house in the woods off the main road about 15min. it was cute but as we arived we seemed to notice it was being used as junk yard. The first week or to was quite but then we started fixing things in the hoise cleaning up more and more. about a month in things began getting odd. one night lights shine through my bedroom window but no one was outside. some night lanterns would be seen in the wooded areas around the house. books would be plased on the floors when we were asleep and we would wake to my open diarys. this went on for two weeks. one night 3 in the morning a loud bang and crash was heard in my moms room i ran to see what it was. my moms mirror from  a very large dresser had been toast in the floor. the mirror never broke and that next morning mom  said she had seen a ghost of a woman standing at the end of her bed. the night after the ghost lifted my head from my pillow. She seemed to like me being there but as for my mom and step dad she did not want them around. Other things happed such as my blanket being moved off of me, Odd dreams, being slammed in your face. I felt she ment no harm to me but to others maybe. My mom is a drawer she is good at it and she told me she could see this ghost so well that she could draw her. Well i thank you for leting me share my story. I love you guys and god bless. Sincerely Alisha Combs.
