Sam’s Got Music News – Tuesday

Dolly Parton’s ‘Christmas of Many Colors’

Dolly Parton‘s TV special, Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, was such a success that NBC is set to re-air the special the day before Christmas Eve. The movie will air again on December 23rd.

Also, tonight is the Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund telethon. Country music icons such as Reba McEntire, Alison Krauss and Kenny Rogers are all scheduled to perform, as well as Parton herself. The event has already begun with much success (Taylor Swift has matched The Academy of Country Music’s donation of $100,000). CLICK HERE for more.

Elton John: The Cut

The legendary singer has teamed up with YouTube to give creative talent from around the world the opportunity to craft official videos for three of his most iconic songs: “Bennie and the Jets,” “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer.” Each song seeks submissions for a specific genre of filmmaking: “Rocket Man” will feature animation, “Tiny Dancer” will be live-action and “Bennie and the Jets” will feature choreography. The competition will close on January 23rd.

“We’re excited to partner with YouTube to bring together generations of artists and music lovers around a shared passion for storytelling,” Elton John said in a statement. “YouTube is a rich tapestry of creativity, and I can’t wait to see how the breadth of talent from the dance, live-action and animation communities apply their vision to these cherished songs.”

Mariah Carey’s “Good Side”

She’s known as one of the most demanding celebrities so this news comes as no surprise to us, but the diva says she prefers to be photographed on the right side of her face (her good side). She reveals in her new show ‘Mariah’s World’, that when she was 19-years-old a woman on set of a photo shoot said, “This is your good side, only let people photograph you from your good side, ever.” The star further admits that she “stuck” with the advice from that day on, though she explains, “I don’t hate it (the left side) when it’s well-lit, they just have to light it.”
